  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Wow, I have been on here for 12 years.

  2. What does your username mean?
It means "plum blossom" in Chinese. I randomly chose it because the username I wanted was taken (and that person has been inactive for a loooong time too :(). It is the name of a song by Teresa Teng, who I loved when I was little.

  3. Describe yourself in three words.
    Procrastinator, caring, artistic

  4. Are you left or right handed?
    Right-handed.

  5. What was your first deviation?
Neopets art - I uploaded it in 2003 and then forgot about DeviantArt for a couple of years. Lol. For some reason the thumbnail doesn't even work - is it too old??? Click here.

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
Realistic digital paintings, but unfortunately it takes too much time, so I guess my second favorite is cutesy doodles. :XD:
In terms of photography, my favorite subject is far and away BIRDS.

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Paper cutting! It is at once 3D and 2D.

  8. What was your first favourite?
    Silly Rabit by camac
From my moody teenage years. Recommended to me by another moody teenage artist/friend.

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
    Bird photography!

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
That's tough. I have been inactive on DA for so long that I am no longer sure who else is still here or what they're even up to. Some favorites from when I was more active include Coelasquid, Jamie-MacArthur, yuumei, Photosbykev, and FForns.

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
More of my fellow Birds-Club admin! I've already met mydigitalmind and SageKorppi in person - would love to meet DeeOtter and Shadow-and-Flame-86!

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Photosbykev was very patient with me when I first started out with wildlife photography and he gave me lots of great tips for shooting and editing. I really appreciated his nurturing personality.
And mydigitalmind inspires me with her amazing knowledge of wild birds, her many artistic talents, as well as her humility.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
Photoshop, OpenCanvas, pen and paper, camera

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Recently, it's been my classroom - I like to make my posters by hand instead of using clipart. Outside of that, I've been taking lots of bird photos and neglecting to share them anywhere... :(

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
There are a lot of good memories... Running the Birds in Love contest was a lot of fun, as was Guess That Bird. In general, connecting to other bird enthusiasts on here has been pretty great!

Hi everyone!

It has been ages since I have been on deviantART - nearly two years have passed since I was last active! First of all, I apologize sincerely, and I will try to catch up with messages. I have 12115 notifications right now! Read on if you want to hear my excuses...

I moved back from Taiwan in summer of 2013, and I got a job as a TA at a school! While the job itself was great, the commute was not. It was an hour, one way, with no traffic, which meant that with normal Bay Area traffic, I was spending upwards of 4 hours a day in a car. Extremely exhausting - couldn't keep my eyes open once I got home.

Secondly, I don't know how many of you are aware of the plight of public school teachers in the US, but it is definitely expected that we take our work home with us. When I taught in Taiwan, I got two afternoons off each week to do professional development and lesson planning. I still went over the allotted time and would work late into the evening occasionally - but it still felt manageable. Here, we barely ever get any planning or prep time allotted to us. So my free time was reduced even more.

Thirdly, even as a person with a master's degree and teaching experience, I still cannot become a lead teacher in California if I do not have a credential. So, at the beginning of last school year, I moved closer to work, cutting down my commute time significantly... but then I also started attending classes again. My amount of free time went up... and then back down to zero. Perhaps even below zero. Currently I spend my evenings and weekends reading textbooks, writing lesson plans, writing essays, and studying for tests. Yay?

Anyway, I'm done spouting excuses! DeviantArt (that's how it's spelled now, right?) has changed a LOT since I was last on here. It's almost unrecognizable to me. Thanks to my loyal followers (if I still have any) for keeping me on your watch lists. Like I said before, I'll try to catch up on my messages. Due to the "no free time" thing, I have almost no art and very little photography to share, but I have a backlog of photos from Taiwan to upload anyway, and I'll try to get around to that. No promises though.

And by the way, HOW ARE YOU DOING??? Tell me how your life has been these past two years! And share your fave personal art from those years with me! I'd love to hear from you!

Congratulations guys, your prizes are on their way! :D

Vultures are an oft-misunderstood bird due to their propensity to consume dead flesh. Some cultures revere them, but others see vultures as pests or dirty birds, or worse, a harbinger of bad things. Scientifically speaking, vultures contribute to the thriving of a healthy ecosystem because they rid the environment of decaying flesh in an efficient manner. However, many vulture species are endangered. For example, many Indian species of vultures are at risk due to the accumulation of Diclofenac in their systems from eating carcasses that contain this powerful painkiller. Let us celebrate the cathartic effect of vultures for International Vulture Day by creating informational posters! Vulture endangerment is a threat to the health of the ecosystem, and education is a powerful weapon, especially when it concerns such misunderstood birds as vultures!

:trophy: First place - 10 points from Cinestress, a colored sketch from meihua, a colored sketch from xHalloweenx, llamas, and features
:trophy: Second place - a traditional art animal request from lluvia-estival, llamas, and features

It was the Canadian government, at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio, that first mooted the idea of World Oceans Day. In 1998, UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission lent its support to this international Day of celebration. Since 2003, World Oceans Day has been coordinated jointly by the World Ocean Network and the American association, The Ocean Project.

A major stride forward

The World Ocean Network and the Ocean Project have worked closely together to promote World Ocean Day. For 6 years they strove to obtain official recognition of this Day as an International celebration by the United Nations. A petition to the United Nations requesting the Day’s official designation obtained tens of thousands of signatures from all around the world. Thanks to all the collective and individual efforts and to the ever increasing public mobilisation for World Ocean Day, the United Nations General Assembly has now designated the 8th June World Ocean Day, the first official international celebration took place in 2009.

International reach

Every year, across the 5 continents, aquariums, research centres, museums, associations  and institutions with a marine environment outreach role celebrate the 8th June. More than 200 organisations from 50 countries come together to take part in this festival of the ocean. On the programme there are organised activities, games, arts  and craft workshops, conferences and films ; it’s a fun day out and entirely dedicated to the ocean.

The Day’s challenges and key objectives

Inform the general public of the dangers facing the ocean and of the impact of human activities,
Create a world-wide citizen’s movement,
Raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in all our daily lives,
Mobilise people around sustainable ocean stewardship projects,
Encourage everyone to take action to preserve the ocean and its riches.
