Description
My friend had a Hawaiian-themed wedding and asked me to draw images for the placeholders for seating arrangements. She originally wanted Hawaiian flowers, but she knew that I liked drawing birds more, so she offered me a choice. In the end I chose both flora and avifauna that live on the Hawaiian islands.
There are six images, one for each table. Each table was named after a Hawaiian island.
Ni'ihau - Forbidden Isle
Laysan albatross - black and white seabird. Chosen because of the literary reference - "albatross around the neck" is a curse, and people associate Forbidden Isles with curses. Also Ni'ihau is on the edge of its nesting range.
Hawaiian seagrass, Halophila hawaiiana - it matches the nature of the bird better than flowers and trees, and it is also endemic to Hawai'i!
