Description
This is prize art for ~Sieskja for placing in #Unicorn-Club's Two Worlds, One Love contest. She won a colored sketch. Well... it turned into a bit more than a sketch, since I liked the subject so much
Here is ~Sieskja's winning piece:
The dragon in the painting is Argenté, Sieskja's silver dragon. The title is in French because that's Sieskja's language It means "Argenté on the bank." Je peux parle un peu de francais, mais c'est trop mal. According to Sieskja, Argente is a "silver dragon with bird wings, horse mane and markhor horns."
I was inspired by impressionist painting styles (especially Monet) and Georges Seurat's famous "Un dimanche apres-midi a l'Ile de la Grande Jatte." I tried to keep the palette limited to around 25 warmish hues but I'm not sure how I like the result. It seems rather stilted. I tried to use different textures to portray different materials. I think I did a pretty good job, except on the dirt and the willow leaves.
If you have any critique on technique, have at me!!!
Initial sketch on paper, outlined and colored in Photoshop. About 2 hours.

If I were you, I might have gone for more of a stippling for the willow leaves rather than long lines streaking down. But if I were you, I wouldn't have composed the scene as well or drawn the dragon as beautifully. Swings and roundabouts. Stippling takes forever.
